The Costa Coffee story began in 1971 when Sergio and Bruno came to London and wanted to make delicious coffee a part of everyday life.
They decided to create the finest coffee by setting up a small roasting shop on Newport Street.
It was here that the Costa brothers blindly tested 112 coffee varieties until they found a blend that was good enough to be our signature blend. They called it ‘Mocha Italia’ and it remains their signature blend to this day.

In 1978, as demand for their coffee grew, the business moved to South London, where the brothers transformed a large paddock into a brand new roasting facility.
The new site is located on Old Paradise Street in Lambeth, where the Costa Coffee roasting facility was located until 2017. It is where their signature coffee blends are produced.
